Mensah Sarbah hall retains championship title at 2023-2024 inter hall sports competition

The largest traditional hall on campus has once again proven that it is the tower of university sports by retaining the inter hall trophy for 2023-2024 season. The games contested by eight halls, city campus and distance education saw the Viking team being dominant in track and field events and other games. 

The hall won 19 gold, 11 silver, 8 bronze and a total of 38 medals in the athletics competition. The women’s team showed outstanding performance by winning a tally of 21 medals consisting of 9 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze while the men’s team returning to the competition after three years of suspension bagged 17 medals made up of 10 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. Both the men and women teams had a comfortable medal lead over their rivals. 

The hall has now won the overall trophy of the competition for the fourth time in a row. Three of the gallant sports persons also set records of outstanding performances. In the women’s category, Elizabeth Agyei set two records by completing 1500m in 4.51s and 800m in 2.23.48, while Sumaila Rukaya powered a throw of 11.36m to set a new record in shotput. In the men’s competition, David Nakousi run 5000m in 14.37s to set a new record.
